2008 Keynote Speaker – Dominic Carter

“Inside City Hall” Host/

Senior Political Reporter

Dominic Carter

“Inside City Hall” Host
Senior Political Reporter

Veteran newsman Dominic Carter has been described as the best
political reporter working in New York television today. A fixture at
NY1 since the newschannel launched in 1992, Carter in 2007 released a
book on his life, titled No Momma’s Boy, in which he chronicles his
triumphant struggle to overcome his mother’s mental illness while
growing up in a Bronx housing project.

As the host of NY1′s nightly political show, “Inside City Hall,”
Carter has handled some of the station’s most challenging assignments
and has interviewed every major political player in the state, as
well as many national and international leaders.

In 2006 he received widespread acclaim for his role as the moderator
of series of state-wide debates for governor, U.S. Senator and state
attorney general. During the first debate with Senator Hillary
Clinton, he made international headlines when Clinton said for the
first time that she was thinking about running for president.

His numerous exclusive interviews include former President Bill
Clinton, the late John Cardinal O’Conner and the parents of police-
brutality victim Amadou Diallo. As a radio reporter he conducted an
exclusive interview with Nelson Mandela during Mandela’s historic
visit to the United States – an interview he conducted as thousands
of journalists from around the country pursued the South African
president.

The NY1 stalwart has also reported extensively from abroad. In 1993
he was the only television journalist in Japan with then-Mayor David
Dinkins at the time of the first World Trade Center terrorist
bombing, and his interview with the mayor made headlines back in New
York.

He twice traveled to Israel to cover visits to the region by
then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani; he has reported on the famine from Somalia;
and he has spent time in the Persian Gulf.

No Mamma’s Boy, his self-published memoir, was released in May 2007
to critical acclaim. Newsday said, “No TV anchor has ever produced a
memoir as grippingly honest as this.” The book is available at Barnes
and Noble stores and online at barnesandnoble.com.

New York, New York – Cheryl ‘Salt’ Wray of Salt-N-Pepa set to Headline Unlock Your Dreams conference on August 9, 2008

About: Cheryl ‘Salt’ Wray

She entered our lives as “Salt”, a member of internationally known female hip hop and pop group, Salt-N-Pepa. From entertaining kings and queens, standing before the great Frank Sinatra to creating a worldwide “AIDS Awareness” campaign, she has made an undeniable impact on our culture. Welcome to the light and the life of World Renowned Entertainer Extraordinaire, Cheryl “Salt” Wray. She is a hip hop legend, an icon for women, and an advocate for today’s youth culture.
Growing up in the boroughs of New York City, she lived among individuals like LL Cool J, Spike Lee, Kid-N-Play and Martin Lawrence, which have become some of the most influential players in entertainment today. Unknowingly, what was originally a product of a school music project would land her to become a member of the most successful female hip hop group of all time.
For over ten years, Salt-N-Pepa followed in the footsteps of greatness. Their mass appeal and dedication have allowed them to share the stage and collaborate with artists like Queen Latifah, Sheryl Crow, En Vogue, Aretha Franklin and many more. Although most of their songs were party and love anthems, their commitment to the issues facing society always stood out in their music, a place where Cheryl found herself the most. Even after winning a Grammy, three MTV Music and Video Awards, the Lady of Soul Honors, and showing sales of over ten million records worldwide, Salt still believes that the best is yet to come.

In 1997, she recorded “Stomp” with Contemporary Gospel Sensation, Kirk Franklin and God’s Property. This non-traditional, out-of-the-box sound crossed over into every radio format, mix tape and was even played in most night clubs around the world. After witnessing this phenomenon, Salt’s vision for the next stop on her journey became clearer.

During Cheryl’s timeout from the industry she began to paint her own self portrait. In her own words, she is ‘much wiser now, happier and has a new outlook on life’. She left the industry on top, and has spent the past six years building her faith with God, sharing life with her family, building her businesses, and preparing to rock the stage again with her first solo record entitled, “SaltUnrapped”. This album is blended with R&B and Hip Hop, and lyrically represents her testimony, convictions, struggles and the victories life can bring. SaltUnrapped is not only relevant, but represents what’s next.

Salt is also the spokesperson for the Urban Inspirational Trade Association. This association and initiative is working to bring integrity and family friendly programming back into the forefront of music, television, films and multimedia. Her album will be the first to launch the new category of music called, “Urban Inspirational”.

Surely Cheryl “Salt” Wray is a lady on the move. She understands her reach and worldwide influence and intends to use it to touch the lives of many. From working on her children’s book series, her biography, and multiple sitcom and film opportunities, you will always find her in a “Wray of Light”. Look for SaltUnrapped in the first quarter of 2006.
